Tube mills

Technical and commercial support for international producers of seamless and welded tubes, for all available technologies.

Overview

Few areas of the steel industry offer as many different production routes as tube making. Which process is right depends on the diameter and wall thickness range, material, lot sizes, required tolerances and planned annual capacity.

KOA-NewTec provides expert services to international producers of seamless and welded tubes. We support you technically and commercially, from process selection through specification and bid comparison to commissioning and optimisation of the plant.

Seamless tubes

  • High-capacity mills

Mandrel mill, plug mill or push bench technology for high output. Selection and design depend on the size programme and capacity.

  • Medium-capacity mills

Cross-rolling processes after Assel or Diescher. Assel mills are particularly suited to heavy-wall tubes, for example for bearings and mechanical engineering.

  • Large-diameter mills

Pilger and expander technology for large diameters and wall thicknesses with flexible lot sizes.

  • Stainless & high-alloy tubes

Extrusion or cross rolling for stainless steel and special materials that place high demands on forming and surface.

Welded tubes

  • ERW / HFI

Electric resistance welded tubes from strip, typically for small and medium diameters in high volumes.

  • HSAW

Helical submerged-arc welded tubes from coil, for large diameters, e.g. in water and pipeline construction.

  • UOE

Large-diameter pipes formed from plate in U and O presses, longitudinally welded and expanded, for pipelines.

  • JCO

Progressive bending into J, C and O shape: flexible for large diameters and wall thicknesses in smaller lots.

Cold forming, finishing and inspection

  • Cold pilger mills

For precision tubes with tight tolerances and high-quality surfaces, especially in stainless steel and special materials.

  • Drawbenches

Cold drawing to produce dimensionally accurate precision tubes and to set mechanical properties.

  • Finishing lines

Straightening, cutting, bevelling, heat treatment, threading and bundling.

  • Inspection lines

Hydrostatic testing, ultrasonic and eddy-current testing, and dimensional and wall thickness measurement.
