Measuring task and principle
Flatness defects such as edge waves, centre buckles or local bulges result from uneven elongation across the strip width. They impair further processing and lead to claims if they are not detected early.
Shapeline's optical systems capture the material surface without contact, using projected laser lines and cameras, and calculate its topography in 3D. Waves and buckles can thus be evaluated quantitatively and fed back to the mill or leveller.
Applications
Hot strip mills
Flatness directly after finishing rolling, as a basis for control.
Plate mills
Capturing plate flatness before and after levelling.
Levellers
Measurement before and after the leveller to optimise its settings.
Cut-to-length & strip lines
Quality documentation for every coil and every sheet.
Benefits
Non-contact
No influence on the material, no wear at the measuring point.
Full-surface 3D
The entire surface is captured, not just individual tracks.
Control instead of rework
Values are available online for the mill and leveller.
Proof for your customers
Documented flatness for each coil or plate.
Shapeline specialises in optical measuring systems for the flatness and shape of strip and plate in the steel and metal industry.
